LIL HICKORY PEPONITA “LIL PEPPY”
Good breeding, gorgeous color, a puppy-dog personality, AND the kind of foundation that leaves his future wide open—this is one fun young gelding!
Lil Hickory Peponita, affectionately known around the barn as “Lil Peppy,” is a registered AQHA gelding with a pedigree packed full of names Quarter Horse people will recognize, tracing back to Smart Little Lena, Doc’s Hickory, Hollywood Dun It, and Peponita Pine.
And he certainly didn’t miss out in the looks department either.
Lil Peppy is a gorgeous dark buckskin dun roan with a beautiful refined head and those big puppy-dog eyes that make it awfully hard to walk past his stall without stopping to say hello. He’s every bit as sweet as he looks, with a kind personality and naturally laid-back disposition that make him an absolute pleasure to have around.
Under saddle, Lil Peppy has a really nice start. He’s soft in the bridle, carries a nice headset, neck reins, moves willingly off leg pressure, and transitions easily into his trot and lope. He’s responsive and willing without feeling like you have to constantly manage him, and he’s the kind of smart horse that seems to pick things up quickly when you introduce something new.
That’s probably what we like most about this gelding—there are so many directions someone could take him.
With his breeding and handle, continue developing him into a ranch or cow horse. Polish him up for the show pen. Make him your all-around horse. Or simply continue putting miles on him and have one really fancy trail partner.
We’ve also lightly introduced Lil Peppy to English work and ground poles, and I think he would make an absolutely BEAUTIFUL English horse. He has the look, movement, and willingness for someone to have a lot of fun developing him in that direction too.
Lil Peppy has also been used out on the trails. Right now, he’d rather let another horse handle the navigation department and is more comfortable following than leading. 😂 But he’s intelligent, willing, and has already been learning to step up and lead. Each new experience seems to add another piece to his confidence.
On the ground, he’s just a sweetheart. Lil Peppy is easy to handle, picks up all four feet willingly, and is good for the veterinarian. He’s the kind of horse that enjoys being around people without forgetting his manners.
He’s not being offered as a horse that’s already done everything.
He’s something even more exciting—the kind that has all the right pieces to BECOME just about anything.
The breeding is there.
The looks are certainly there.
The handle is there.
And most importantly, the mind is there.
Lil Peppy comes with a current veterinary health examination, current Coggins, and is currently shod all the way around.
Please take the time to watch his video and see this handsome gelding for yourself. If you’d like to learn more about Lil Peppy or talk about whether he’d be a good fit for you, please give me a call or text. We’re also happy to help coordinate shipping if needed.
Someone is going to have an awful lot of fun turning this sweet, talented gelding into exactly the horse they’ve always wanted.
