BEX — because ordinary was never really his thing.
At first glance, it’s the color that gets you. A 7-year-old, 15.1 hand leopard Appaloosa covered in beautiful palomino-colored spots, with the mane, tail, and forelock most Appaloosas forgot to order. He’s unusual, classy, and downright hard to quit looking at.
But spend five minutes with Bex and his color quickly becomes the least interesting thing about him.
This gelding is an old soul. He’s kind, quiet, incredibly personable, and genuinely enjoys people. He meets you at the gate, appreciates a good scratching, minds his manners, and has that calm, settled way about him that you simply can’t manufacture.
And Bex didn’t get good by going around in circles his whole life.
He’s put in long days ranching through rough, rocky country. He’s learned to watch where he puts his feet, take care of himself and his rider, and keep going when the country gets tough. Take him outside and you’ll understand exactly why we like him so much. Give him his head, point him toward the horizon, and go. Water, logs, bridges, hills, thick brush, rough country or several miles down the trail — Bex is happy to take you there.
He’s just as enjoyable in the arena. He walks, trots and lopes pretty circles, picks up his correct leads, and is a beautiful mover. Truthfully, put an English saddle on him and he’d look like he belonged there too.
Flags, tarps and obstacle courses don’t change his expression much. Neither does a little time off.
That may be the best thing about Bex: you don’t have to earn the right to enjoy him every time you saddle him. He stays gentle. He stays broke. He stays the same. No lunging the freshness off, no unnecessary nonsense — saddle up and go have a good day.
Bex isn’t being advertised as perfect because he has spots.
He’s special because underneath all that color is a safe, seasoned, honest gelding with a great mind and an even better personality.
The fact that he looks like that is just showing off.
