3yr old, black, Percheron/Quarter Horse Cross Gelding, currently standing 15.3 hands.
Orion is the kind of horse we noticed potential in early on. He is athletic, mature-minded, intelligent, and a has a charming personality that makes him a true pleasure to have in the barn. Everything we have asked of him, he has taken on with a willing attitude and a confidence that is impressive for a horse his age.
Orion’s training has been intentionally well-rounded, with plenty of real world exposure. He has spent time in the arena, on the trail, and is frequently hauled off property for new adventures. He takes new experiences in stride and is confident in unfamiliar settings. On a few occasions, friends have borrowed Orion to carry the flag in rodeo grand entries, where he remained completely unbothered by the commotion of crowds, multiple horses, rodeo stock, and carnival lights like a seasoned veteran.
On the trail, Orion is confident both on and off the farm. He will quietly hack out alone or in a group and is comfortable crossing water, navigating downfall, traveling up and down inclines, and picking his way through uneven and rocky terrain. We have used Orion to pony young horses along on the trail, and he has even pulled the kids in the kayak down the river. He truly is a lot of fun!
Orion transitions easily between English and Western riding. He is happy to move out on a loose rein or collect up in the bridle, travels both directions on the correct lead, moves laterally, and has comfortable forward trot, and a ground-covering canter. Simple changes, smooth transitions, and has started over cross rails. His athletic ability, willing nature, and versatility give him plenty of room to continue developing in whichever direction his next rider chooses.
Orion is an asset to any program. He offers the versatility to be a “one horse for multiple uses” type of partner, with the mind, talent, and temperament to take on a variety of adventures.
