Rosy is a homebred young mare, raised with care, and it shows. She was only backed three times as a three year old, started under saddle as a four year old, then put into real training when she was five. Our goal is to have a horse that is mature before the true under saddle work begins, to ensure a sound riding companion for many years to come. Lots of groundwork and desensitization were the early goals, and this has made Rosy a sensible mount. I am older and wanted to make sure if I drag my leg over my horse’s croup, there is no flinching or startling. Rosy is fine with that! She “rates your seat” and if you sit deep in the saddle, she is ready to stop for you, no problem. If you touch the reins and say “Whoa” she is immediately stopping all forward motion! But Rosy is no deadhead! She is always ready to head out on the trail, lively and looking to see what is coming up. She is not spooky, she might startle briefly at worst, not whirling around or scooting sideways, and she has never tried to bolt or rear. Rosy backs easily with a slight pull and release, flat walks easily, and picks up speed with the touch of a calf or a kiss. She also has a very nice lope, though we don’t ask her often. While Paso Finos are known to be sensitive, Rosy is sensible! Never bothered by fly spray or bathing, and excellent for deworming, vaccines and farrier work. Though she is currently barefoot, she was shod a couple of years ago and behaved just fine. Rosy stands 13.2 hands on a stick. She is a stout little mare and handles me at 5’6″ just fine, as you can see in the pictures and video. She weighs right at 800 pounds on a tape. This is not a horse you have to go catch; she runs to you when you call her name and whistle! She vastly enjoys having all her itchy spots scratched; and she has a lot of itchy spots! Loves her wither, jowls, chest, and her udder scratched. We had to discourage her love of having her tailbone scratched because she was backing up to people for that and we decided it was a bit rude. Rosy is a perlino, and produced a gorgeous palomino colt when bred to a chestnut stallion two years ago. Her dam was a buckskin, dire a perlino, and if bred to a bay or black, she should produce buckskin. Rosy has a very comfortable gait, not extremely fast like a show-ring Paso Fino, but a shorter stride than a Walking Horse, which makes for less back and forth motion, and that helps for those with back problems. If collected up, she can do a more typical Paso gait, but as our focus has been on comfort rather than style, we don’t often ask her for that. Rosy stays fat on air, it seems, and like most smaller horses, she should have limited green grass. Early this summer we had an episode of what initially appeared to possibly be laminitis. However, Rosy came through that with no lasting problems, both our certified journeyman farrier and our equine-exclusive veterinarian have pronounced her sound, and I can provide her X-rays showing absolutely zero rotation. She is riding around barefoot and sound. From my point of view, Rosy’s worst fault is she appears marish in a stall when fed. She pins her little ears and snakes her neck out but has never nipped or acted out. I love mares, so this is no surprise to me, I just go in with her and shove her head away from the bucket till her ears come up! Just want to be completely up front, this mare means a lot to me. Rosy is for sale as we are downsizing and moving nearly 2000 miles away. She was not bred to be a sale horse, but circumstances sometimes dictate our decisions. I certainly welcome questions, be patient on a reply as I really am prepping for a move and have a lot on my plate! But would love to talk with you about Rosy, I have all her background, so no unknowns here! Please be aware due to the upcoming move, Rosy will have to be picked up here no later than November 22. Thanks!
