In all of the years we have been around horses, Shrek is the coolest draft cross we have ever come across.
This gelding is exceptional in every way.
Extremely sweet. Adores people and attention. He follows people around like a lap dog. Super safe and respectful on the ground. He is not pushy, stands quietly tied, loads right in the trailer without hesitation, and is great for the farrier and vet. He does not need his stocks trimmed; he stands great without them! He even smiles on command.
Under saddle, he is a dream boat! More whoa than go. He only goes as fast as you ask him to. He is responsive, has a good stop, neck reins, and listens well in a basic smooth snaffle. He can also be ridden completely bridle-less or in a halter. The girl riding him bridleless is 70 lbs, and he goes everywhere she points him.
These kids have done everything on him. They have ridden him triple, had water fights on him on the hot days, ridden him over and under every water obstacle imaginable, fished off of him, golfed and played baseball off his back, he carries a flag, and we have never seen him spook at any of our desensitization tools.
He couldn’t care less about traffic, including air brakes, bikes, strollers, etc.
On the trail, he is so fun! He is like riding a big couch. He is “go with the flow” and so easy-going. We have had him in the center of Fort Collins and all over Rocky Mountain National Park riding on backcountry trails. He is surefooted and reliable on small, narrow trails; even though he isn’t small, he is great at picking his way through terrain.

He is healthy. No previous injuries; he’s never been sick. He’s always been sound barefoot. He is UTD on all vaccines, wormer, farrier care, and teeth floating, and has been sand-cleared. He is an easy keeper and not on any grain.
